Trip 3 Day Five With Artem

WARNING...police have just received a call that we have a streaker loose in Russia!

Artem got to experience total "freedom" this morning after breakfast. The boy would have spent the entire morning nekked if I would have let him. He had so much fun running through the apartment in his birthday suit and giggled and laughed the entire time.

We didn't do much today. A light burned out in the apartment which blew a fuse and we lost power except the TV and kitchen. The building crew spent several hours working on it and finally tonight we got full power back.

We had our first major food battle today at lunch. The big spoon that Artem used in the past turned into a big problem today. He decided that it was a lot of fun to bang it on our glass breakfast table and then use it to throw food and launch food around the kitchen. The spoon was removed, Artem was cleaned up and promptly removed from the table. He proceeded to pitch a huge fit on the kitchen floor and after a few minutes of telling the world how horrible we were, he calmed down and I brought him back to the table and fed him myself with his baby spoon. The rest of his meals were served and will be served with the baby spoon. I think he got the message today at lunch because he sat still and ate his lunch like a good boy smiling and tilting his head at me after each bite.

We went to TGI Fridays tonight for dinner after we fed Artem his dinner at home and he did a great job. He played with his snack trap full of Cheerios and ate bread, french fries and several green beans. He actually preferred the green beans to the french fries. After dinner we had to go to the grocery store again to pick up a few groceries and then it was back to the apartment for another try at a bath. This time we didn't put any water in the tub. Randy wore his swim trunks again and held Artem and we used the hand sprayer to get him wet. He didn't like it but he didn't scream too much until we got to washing his hair and then he screamed and screamed. After his bath I took him out and Randy stayed in the tub and played and splashed. Artem watched Randy play and I encouraged him to play along with Randy. He lightened up a little bit and smiled a few times and then we called it a night with the bath. Maybe next time he'll do a little better. This boy is going to have to get over his fear of water because he has two parents that spend their summer at the lake doing water sports.

Sharing Cheerios with daddy.

Concentrating on opening my snack trap.

LOVE his thunder thighs! He's built like a football player - watch out girls!

Seeing his little 'nekked' body shows how healthy he is! Cade was a scrawny little thing when we got him. :)

Ehhh...I'd bet money that in a week or two (hopefully less), he'll LOVE bathtime. If I remember correctly, it took Iliya until the 7th day to enjoy playing. Regarding the spoon, I figure it's just as well that you are able to do some feeding, anyway...you know, for all that attachment stuff. :)

And the pics. LOVE them! There's nothin' like a cute, squishy baby bootie!!

BTW, he's going to LOVE you one day, for posting him in all his glory for the whole world!! ;)

How funny - he looks so healthy! Really. What a doll. I agree with Melissa - give the bath thing a week or two and some tub toys at home and he's going to love it. We went through the same thing with Brady and now have to drag him out kicking and screaming. Take care!

Sounds like you are getting a good taste of parenthood in a very short time. I can't wait to see him in person.

Your brave letting your boy run free like that! The first time our girls ran around nekkid, we had a puddle! :-(

The girls didn't like baths at first either. Especially Anneliese. She would scream and scream. They warmed up to it after a few times though, and now they come running when we say it is bath time.

It's amazing to see how Artem has changed just in the last few photos. The terrible outfits that they haver to wear at the orphange makes him look like a doll. Now he looks like a little boy. It will be so much better once you get home with Artem. It will make a huge difference for you as a family. Congrats!!!
